To date my research has concentrated on the history and archaeology of pilgrimage in early and late medieval Ireland. In 2010 I completed a PhD thesis 'Pilgrimage in Medieval Ireland AD 600-1600'. I am also very interested in pilgrim roads and routeways as well in pilgrim souvenirs and burials in Ireland and the rest of Europe. Recently I have begun to record modern pilgrimages at holy wells in Ireland.
The project is about The Via Francigena and the other trans-national pilgrimage routes certified by the Council of Europe as tools of sustainable cultural tourism development and community participation to the enhancement of Europe's cultural and heritage diversity.
The Saints and Stones trails have been set up to give both holiday visitors and residents in Pembrokeshire access to places of worship, and access to some of its more remote corners.
Journeying is an ecumenical organisation which takes small groups on holiday to locations in Britain and Ireland.
