The image of Our Lady of Montserrat, is a 12th-century Romanesque polychrome carving. Pope Leo XIII proclaimed Our Lady of Montserrat Patron Saint of Catalonia in 1881. The Sanctuary is made up of two large blocks of buildings, the Basilica, together with Monastery buildings, and the buildings for tourists and pilgrims.
